Order 2 months in advance and receive reminders to collect or anticipate a delivery. This feature is especially beneficial for large orders or peak periods, such as holidays when floral arrangements are high in demand. Customer retention is boosted due to convenience.

Research

Surveys

To understand the needs and goals of our target users, I conducted user research using a combination of methods including surveys and gathering data through competitive analysis. Through user research, I narrowed down 3 main user pain points.

Competitive Analysis

To learn more about leading flower delivery apps, I compared the features of other leading applications to identify the distinctive features that would set To-lip apart from its counterparts.

Overwhelming Options

Customization

Busy individuals want to be able to order in advance and not have to worry about the complications that would occur from forgetting and ordering late.

Users have trouble navigating and deciding suitable bouquets to purchase.

Users want the option of being able to create their own bouquets.

Target Users

To-lip aims to become a versatile application catering to a diverse user base ranging from 18-50 years old. In guiding my design process, I developed two user personas.

Ideation

User Flow

I created this user flow keeping the key features previously shown in mind.

Wireframing and User Testing

I created wireframes to plot out the process and made variations of designs. Through user feedback, I was able to apply changes through iterations.

Simplicity is Key!

1. Too Crowded

In my initial iteration, I aimed to make all categories readily accessible on the homepage. However, this resulted in overcrowding the screen. I decided to display only a few options per scroll to maintain clarity and ease of navigation.

2. Reading Difficulty

I enlarged the text and removed excess information to enhance readability for smartphone users. Furthermore, I adjusted the background colors to provide greater contrast and improve text visibility.

3. Ease of Navigation

I redesigned the bottom navigation bar to white while also resizing the text and icons, aiming for a sleeker appearance and for better visibility. Additionally, I introduced a highlighting feature in the navigation menu to indicate the current page, offering users clear feedback on their position within the user flow.

Design System

The green color was used as a reflection of eco-friendly and creativity initiatives. Pink was used as a symbol of love and romance, a constant motivation when purchasing flowers.

Challenges

Developing this application alone presented its challenges. I would have benefitted from collaborating with others and receiving fresh perspectives. Additionally, compiling analytical research posed a challenge due to my limited experience in this type of application. Nonetheless, the process of creating To-lip has been a valuable learning experience.

Conclusion

While this app successfully addressed the primary concern of purchasing bouquets, there are still opportunities for improvement. This case study proved to be a real challenge and rewarding. I believe I've gained valuable insights into the process of product creation, from ideation to execution!
